The rule of law (for English speaking people)

There are now three cases leading in justice affairs,  complicated and with too much media attention. I mean TV programmes with so called experts

I have the feeling that many Spaniards think that the three defendants are already guilty. I have not surveys, another word that is used to pontificate anything. Perhaps it would have almost unanimous consensus; it would vary the degree of culpability, number of crimes committed and the penalty.

The problem is that you have to prove it, with evidence, with facts that can not be refuted. Beyond any reasonable doubt.

The media attention, with or without heat wave; the junk programs (I fear rising) and those who presume in the morning hours on TV to report the public, they are never aware of guiding public opinion toward the sentence, all contributes. By the way, who does watch television in the morning? o afternoon? Who sees and hears? If watching  is counterproductive, worse is listening.

I think that a prosecutor has said in his allegations "I had heard many honest-to-God truths" What kind of talk is that, in a trial? Are we well? Is that what perceptions, impressions, feelings, moods, opinions serve for? Are these truths enough to condemn? Should not the verdict  be reached through evidences ?

The analysis of Quevedo , the Spaniard writer, said: "Where there is little justice is dangerous to be right." We should apply that in this story today.

The three cases are very different. One can be, at least, a murderer, who plans a terrible revenge to hurt a mother, where it hurts: the loss of a child, this time of two little children.

The other is a consort, close to the power, in addition to all felonies of which he is accused, he set the people against a state institution.

The third is perhaps the most serious. He has been part of the structural framework of an specific political party (and the other parties?). He has implemented a system which may have benefited some more than others. It isn't individual, it is collective, dragging many people for years. If true, many, many more would be involved. Those who are in power because they were and are, those of the opposition, how they did it?

We must at all costs get prosecuted them and the conviction be as fair as possible.

Otherwise go to Almagro, La Mancha Spain, a play about Thomas More is on stage. I always love the character, he seemed not even English, or he was an Old English man. In the scaffold before cutting off his head, he joked about his beard and how he was going to come down from there. Always defended the law, provided the law, which distinguishes us from other species.
