Living with loneliness (for English speaking people)

Is depression the evil of our time?
Probably people have always been depressed in one way or another. Time, the factor which makes us truly human, turns against us and we are surrounded by depressed human beings. Now life expectancy is bigger, I am not sure if better; but pushes our natural instinct not to die, even if people surrender to decline. At my age I can not think straight in those circumstances, my chemical composition is not deteriorated yet. I share certain fullness, not knowing the range.
We are harassed with warnings. The countries of the Mediterranean diet, so healthy, live longer and yet there is no money to pay the pensions. Everyday it is announced that we will live more years, that the quality of life will be better, diseases will be cured, although others appear. Genetic medicine is science fiction with unimaginable fields. Fighting against death, or prolonging life, discovers new problems. It does not matter, human  beings will get depressed if they fail to face reality.
Most people think about retirement; the dream of giving a hit like the famous thief Dioni; winning the biggest lotto prize, signing the contract of the century to solve life. The solution of life refers to the economic assurance. Retiring sooner, not working anymore and yet sadly regretting the absence of a decent job. We are not consistent.
Down the street you come across elderly, lucky, accompanied by someone, usually from another country, they take a walk. In many of them their eyes are lost, focused at a distance that may not focus well. Defenseless, dependent and crying for help.
On buses there are old people running to dispute over a seat, as if they own that particular one. There are others who perhaps are less physically fit and remain standing, not fighting.
There are old people maintaining a good sense of humor; if male they can even be dirty old men who still are moved to the contouring of a pretty woman or a man with an acceptable rear. Women are touched by other different things.
There are others, a lot, in that second innocence of Antonio Machado, the poet, they do not believe in nothing, NOTHING AT ALL.
Some laugh and enjoy themselves more than the youngest, as they say carpe diem and live your life. Life is short, but long enough to make of it something really good
That which Colonel Aureliano Buendia said about old age: it is just a pact with loneliness, may be it is true. And to conclude a deal is always a good policy.
